About Coinworks

Buying-and-Selling-Page-Banner-April-2023

Coinworks offers rare coins you simply won't find elsewhere. We offer an unparalleled service, our aim to deliver every client with the best possible buying or selling experience.

The Coinworks team works hand-in-hand with clients advising them how to get the best value out of the market, while at the same time satisfying their prime reasons for purchase. Those reasons may be hard-nosed ones, based on an investment strategy, or purely emotional ones.

The great thing about the rare coin and banknote industry is that it can offer both.

Coinworks has worked with leading Australian companies and organisations in our quest to promote and support the industry. Our most recent foray was in 2019 in a joint partnership with the Royal Australian Mint Canberra to stage an Exhibition that honoured the nation’s first coins, the Holey Dollar and Dump, the "All That Is Holey" Exhibition. We have also collaborated with the Macquarie Group in 2013 and the ANZ Bank in 2007 to stage major numismatic exhibitions.

Coinworks has sold Australia's most valuable coin, the Proof 1930 Penny. And our most valuable banknote, the Commonwealth of Australia's Ten Shillings issued in 1913 with the serial number '1'. Vendors choose Coinworks for one prime reason. We get the job done.

Belinda Downie Managing Director

Belinda has been involved in the Australian numismatic industry for nearly fifty years and was mentored by two of the industry’s most respected dealers, father-in-law Phil Downie. And close colleague Barrie Winsor.

In 2000, Belinda Downie stepped away from her well-established role as a mail-order coin dealer, and established Coinworks, a company that specialises in the handling of high quality, rare pre-decimal Australian coinage.

Belinda has the reputation and the contacts to provide clients with some of the rarest and most important pieces that the Australian coin market can offer. However, she is quick to point out that in acquiring the best, clients do not have to pay ridiculous prices. Knowledge is critical in assessing a coin’s value, and knowing its future potential - which is where the experience of Coinworks comes in.

Sarah Braybrook  - E-Marketing

Sarah was recruited by Managing Director of Coinworks, Belinda Downie, into the numismatic industry straight from secondary school in 1995.

Sarah’s understanding of the product and her engaging personality saw her take up a variety of different roles from the handling of valuable inventory to dealing directly with clients both in a mail order environment and in retail outlets.

Sarah took time out from the industry in 2001 to raise a family.

Sarah returned to the industry in 2016 and operates Coinworks web marketing.
