Of the 14 coins that make up the series struck by the Perth Mint between 1955 and 1963, the 1956 Proof Penny is a key date. It is excruciatingly scarce and in top quality, it is the absolute key coin. The hardest to find.
The reason is simply the mintage. The Perth Mint struck a meagre 417 coins. (Compare this let’s say to the 1957 Perth Mint Proof Penny that was struck in a mintage of 1112 coins.)
The proof coins struck between 1955 and 1963 are a perfect entry point into the Australian rare coin market. Limited edition collector coins at very affordable prices. They also come at the top of our list of recommendations for clients looking to tuck something away for their children or grandchildren.
This coin is a stand-out rarity and a stand-alone investment piece.
