200th Anniversary of the Holey Dollar
Two Holey Dollars were snapped up in March: four Holey Dollars were acquired in the preceding eight months. That takes Coinworks tally of Holey Dollar sales from July 2011 to March 2012 to $2.225 million.
And more Holey Dollar sales are to come with our recent announcement that Coinworks has secured the rights to sell the famous - and unique – 1810 Type 8 “Hannibal Head” Holey Dollar.
Universally considered a jewel of the Australian Rare Coin Industry, its first owner was Sir John H Lefroy in 1881.
The Holey Dollar and its diminutive partner the Colonial Dump are Australia’s first domestic coins struck by authority of Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1813.
The spate of sales over the last nine months confirms our thoughts that the race to acquire top Holey Dollars and Dumps ahead of the 2013 celebrations is well under way.
It is a statement of fact that Coinworks has bought – and sold - more Holey Dollars (both by number of coins and total dollar value) over the last nine months than at any other point of time in our operation
