Rarity - This consecutive pair of pre-decimal Star notes is only one of two pairs known, and this pair is the finer of the two. The notes are also First Prefix , so from the first run of 1949 Coombs Watt Ten Shillings printed.
Quality - The notes are presented in original mint state, absolutely superb for quality. Both notes have full sheen and are crisp with razor sharp edges.
Background - These two notes first appeared at an IAG auction in September 2008. They were previously unrecorded. Graded as Uncirculated the pair sold for $151,450 including buyer’s commission. Described in the auction catalogue as extremely rare as a consecutive pair, in original mint state, with full sheen and crispness. Only one other consecutive pair of Coombs Watt Ten Shillings Star Notes are known, they are of lesser quality.
