This 1922/21 Overdate Threepence is a leader in its field. It is one of the finest known examples of the nation’s scarcest threepence and is a truly great Australian Commonwealth coin rarity.
That a member of the Jaggard family chose to include this coin in a personal collection is an affirmation of its calibre. (The name Jaggard has been associated with the numismatic industry for more than 40 years.)
Our research has confirmed that only three premium quality specimens have surfaced on the market over the last decade. If we extend our search to include the last twenty five years we can find only another two specimens to have come up at auction.
While there is conjecture within the industry as to how the famous ‘2’ over ‘1’ came to be struck, the controversy has only fuelled demand.
Testimony to the respect with which top quality 1922/21 Overdates are held, the finest known example sold in 2010 for more than $150,000. It should also be noted that even examples that are well worn and bereft of design are valued at around $5000.
